I’m Sjoerd Blom. I used to be a web developer, a foodie, and a proud father. These days, I’m a chef. I live in Leeuwarden with my wife and our two daughters.
I could have become a teacher, but halfway through the 1990s I shifted towards technical work, right at the moment when the internet slowly started to become part of everyday home life. Historical hint: Mosaic or Netscape on a 5¼-inch floppy disk.
In April 2006 I discovered WordPress and quickly migrated my website to it. Code felt like pure poetry. In 2013 I became self-employed. At first I focused on cooking and catering, but I soon realised that my passion for WordPress offered more opportunities and came at a lower cost. These days I mainly design and build WordPress websites within my own company, Vertizio.
I’m also a WordCamp organiser, currently involved in organising WordCamp Europe. I started as a volunteer, then became a co-organiser, and in 2021 and 2022 I served as a team lead. For 2023, I’m fully responsible for the event as the Global Lead for WordCamp Europe 2023 in Athens.
