Yoast Care Fund
Despite my work outside the internet sector, I continue to actively contribute to the WordPress community. Simply because I enjoy doing so, and because I like sharing my knowledge and experience with others. Over the past few years, I’ve worked hard on organising WordCamp Europe, which took place in Athens from 8 to 10 June 2023. Together with Evangelia Pappa and José Freitas, I spent almost two years preparing for the event. In previous editions of WordCamp Europe, my role was mainly focused on leading teams.
All of this time has always been unpaid, but certainly not without reward. It has left me with a large group of new friends. That said, the work also involved quite a few expenses. Flying there twice, accommodation, food. All paid for out of my own pocket.
Fortunately, there’s Yoast. They support people who invest their own time and money in the open source community. Not only specifically for WordPress and WordCamps, but for other projects as well. Recently, I received a financial contribution from the Yoast Care Fund, for which I’m extremely grateful. These are unsettled and uncertain times, so even a small contribution towards the costs I’ve incurred is more than welcome.
