Despite my work outside the internet sector, I continue to actively contribute to the WordPress Community. Just because I enjoy doing it and because I also want to share my knowledge and experience with others. Over the past few years, I have worked hard to set up WordCamp Europe, which took place in Athens from June 8th to 10th, 2023. Alongside Evangelia Pappa and José Freitas, I spent nearly 2 years preparing for it. And in previous editions of WordCamp Europe, I mainly led teams. The time I invested has always been unpaid, but not priceless, as I have gained a whole new group of friends from it.
These activities have also incurred quite a lot of expenses: flying there twice, accommodation, and meals. All paid out of my own pocket…
Fortunately, there’s Yoast. They provide support to people who invest their own time and money in the open-source community, not only specifically for WordPress and WordCamps but also for other projects. Recently, I received a financial contribution from the Yoast Care Fund. For that, I am extremely grateful! Times are currently uncertain and turbulent, so a small compensation for the expenses I incurred is greatly appreciated.
